Twenty-five years ago, Brian and I planned a dream trip to Southeast Asia. We had the itinerary mapped out, the dates set, the budget sorted. Everything was ready—Khmer temples, Balinese waterfalls, night markets, and golden sunsets were waiting for us.

And then, just as we were about to book the flights—surprise.

We found out we were pregnant.

The poet and Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh transitioned on January 22nd, 2022. His teachings were an important influence on my life as a younger woman, and continue to nourish me daily.

I think of photos as visual affirmations. These photos make me feel good about myself, and so I’m sharing them with you!

I have my older sister Elaine to thank for having scanned these photos of my parents. Probably forgotten in a musty photo album or buried in a shoebox, they would have gone unnoticed, had she not made that effort.

We lost our lovely mother in 2009, and six years before that we lost our father.
